The Folk Music of African Americans

The lives and music of the African American People are highlighted in this performance.  From the shores of Africa to the songs of children during the plantation era.  The messages of the spiritual and the lives these melodies transported.  The rich legacy of the blues, the calls of the Arabs and street vendors as they made their living in cities throughout the United States. The impact that this music had on opera, concert and American music of today is revealed in this presentation.  

This Little Light of Mine 

Characters are brought to life as the lives and music of five African American female  artists takes the stage.  These artists were trail blaizers in the area of concert music.  Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield, born a slave and sang for Queen Victoria.  Marie Selika, a noted soprano in Europe, Sissiereitta Jones, who sang for presidents, Marion Anderson and her struggle to perform, Leontyne Price, breaking color barriors.
